Stimulated-Echo Contrast with Hyperpolarized [1-C]-Pyruvate
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: A stimulated-echo sequence with high sensitivity to diffusion and flow is shown here to provide a valuable contrast mechanism for hyperpolarized C metabolic imaging (1-4). This mechanism can highlight stationary metabolites, while suppressing signal from flowing metabolites. This helps to distinguish whether C-pyruvate is converted to Clactate within the tissue or whether the C-lactate was produced elsewhere and flowed into the tissue, thus confounding metabolic state assessments (5).

Super Stimulated-Echo Preparation for Hyperpolarized 13C Metabolic Imaging
Introduction: The stimulated-echo (STE) can be used to provide high sensitivity to diffusion and flow (1). We have recently applied a STE acquisition mode (STEAM) to hyperpolarized [1-C]pyruvate metabolic imaging and found improved tumor contrast (2). The STE distinguishes whether [1-C]pyruvate is converted to [1-C]lactate within the tissue or whether the [1-C]lactate was produced elsewhere and...
متن کامل3D Metabolic Imaging with Stimulated Echoes for Flow Suppression
Introduction: The Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) method for dissolution of hyperpolarized compounds has allowed for in vivo metabolic imaging, primarily done with hyperpolarized [1-C]-pyruvate [1]. One shortcoming of current hyperpolarized MRSI methods is that they do not distinguish between in-flowing labeled-metabolites and those generated within the region of interest. By using a stimula...
متن کاملIntegrated Systems and Technologies Hyperpolarized C Spectroscopy Detects Early Changes in Tumor Vasculature and Metabolism after VEGF Neutralization
No clinically validated biomarkers exist to image tumor responses to antiangiogenic therapy. Here, we report the utility of hyperpolarized C magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to detect the early effects of anti-VEGF therapy. In two colorectal cancer xenograft models, displaying differential sensitivity to VEGF blockade, we compared hyperpolarized MRS with measurements of tumor perfusion usi...
متن کاملInvestigation of tumor hyperpolarized [1-13C]-pyruvate dynamics using time-resolved multiband RF excitation echo-planar MRSI.
Hyperpolarized [1-(13)C]-pyruvate is an exciting new agent for the in vivo study of cellular metabolism and a potential cancer biomarker. The nature of the hyperpolarized signal poses unique challenges because of its short duration and the loss of magnetization with every excitation. In this study, we applied a novel and efficient time-resolved MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) method to investig...
متن کاملMulti-band frequency encoding method for metabolic imaging with hyperpolarized [1-(13)C]pyruvate.
A new method was developed for simultaneous spatial localization and spectral separation of multiple compounds based on a single echo, by designing the acquisition to place individual compounds in separate frequency encoding bands. This method was specially designed for rapid and robust metabolic imaging of hyperpolarized (13)C substrates and their metabolic products, and was investigated in ph...
